Walking during the last week

This is the final week of the season at Lakeside, where we have our summer home on Lake Erie. This morning I walked about 2 miles before 7 a.m. There is a strong wind out of the northeast, so there was a lot of exciting wave action walking along the lakefront. The coffee shop is closed for a few days (not enough people), so I was waiting for a small luncheon place to open at 7:30. Yesterday I also got in 2 miles. Sunday and Monday--nothing. But Saturday I walked to the antique sale twice, so although that was more of a stroll, I think I got in 2 miles. After a really hot, but pleasant summer, it is now cool and rainy with a real hint of fall. Some of the cottages have already been closed up for the winter and look quite sad. The rains from Ernesto should be here by the week-end.

Rainy Days

Rained much this last week, but was able to walk and do a little running and speedwalking, all but today. Drizzly so went to work early.

Tomorrow AM - up and at 'em early so I can enjoy the quiet AM. The Blue Heron is usually near the banks of the canal, I love to see him glide over the water. Am looking forward to the walk and the pretties of late summer.

walking - one of the joys of life

sorry, I haven't been home for weeks but I have been walking and swimming and today I get out my bike again.

In Tallinn I walked about 2km everyday (sometimes more) -except Tuesday this week when it rained cats and dogs so I stayed inside ALL day.

It's good to be home again, and today I'll walk the dog too which will be GREAT!

Saturday Working up to Four Miles

Today I decided time to up the ante - 3 and 1/4 miles. Two walk/runs yet this year, both 5K's. A little nudge, saw one of my law enforcement acquaintance (does the 10K and marathon for the same days) who asked if I was going to do my usual run/walks. My friend and I are, but we have both been lax on the running side. I've only missed the rainy AMs, but must hop to it and get my act together with a little running and speed walking.

This AM was foggy and muggy, but at 70 degrees, it was not bad. While I was walking along the fenceline, I spied lots of gold finches flitting about the blue and white cornflowers. Down in town, one house has magic lilies all around a tree and the house where my uncle and aunt once lived is alive with flowers.

Even though we've had some good rains this year, the canal seems low - my fisherman neighbor told me that was because there hadn't been as much rain north of the Quad Cities ( my area of Illinois, right off Interstate 80, along the Mississippi). Still, I saw a big turtle out in the middle and some fish feeding by the banks.

On the way home, I marveled at the height of the corn. Then home and off to the office for the afternoon.

Skirting the issue along Lake Erie

I've been walking in cotton skirts I bought a Wal-Mart to stay cool while I walk. Tiered and swingy, like when I was in high school. Four miles yesterday, and one today, but I'm going back out. Wednesday evening we ate at friends' home, so I tossed that in as a mile to make about 3 for Wednesday. Summer is winding down. I picked up a green maple leaf today speckled with red, and the books at the Methodist store (in Lakeside) are 25% off for end of the season bargains. Although schools have started for the fall in some Ohio towns, there are still plenty of children here this week. My husband helped with the Kids Sail Wednesday and 91 children lined up for it. On our walk yesterday, my husband noticed a retired Methodist minister we know from church and stopped to chat (he was sitting on a park bench reading by the lake) He liked his cap. Today he bought one just like it.

Thursday AM Walk

Took a couple hours off from work this AM. Up early and walking since rain was predicted. My usual route and furry friends, as well as meeting an acquaintance who lives near the canal. He has a big garden, mine is very little (3 tomato plants and 1 green pepper). He gave me some tomatoes and cucumbers. Then off again to the turnaround and home.

Out in the yard for about 2 hours, then on to work. Hrs haven't changed and people's tempers are short - but I have coming home to look forward to so I go through the day with a grin.

Still in Illinois and Wlking

Time quickly has passed. What with 60 hour work weeks and babysitting a litter of newborn kittens and their Mom - a stray, I was still able to walk at least two miles a day unless it was pouring rain. (I am a member of two local animal aid societies so Mama Cat and her babies are now at a safe place waiting for adoption.)
Thursday, I walked with my friend about three miles, then about a third of the way we stopped at the Dairy Queen for a chocolate cone. Friday was a fast two miles and today was three miles with a few stops to chat with neighbors and pet my Malamute friend while staying a safe distance from Harley - a minature poodle with a nipping habit. Did not see the blue heron - walked too late this AM. This afternoon, off to work and tomorrow afternoon - yard work and garage cleaning. The only thing sane about my days are these walks and knowing that God is watching over to keep me safe until the days at work quiet down and I have at least a partial backup for my position.

Trying to catch up

on my walking. I did about 2 miles today around the condo grounds (I'm back in Columbus to pick up my cat). I've really gotten out of shape since returning from Europe. Back to Lakeside tomorrow, so hope the weather holds.

Catching a break and a breeze

Thunderstorms yesterday cooled things down here in northern Ohio yesterday, so this morning I was able to walk in 67 degrees along the lakefront. I'm down to 1 or 2 miles a day--it's just not been healthy to walk. I've been wearing only skirts and dresses--so much cooler!

Sea Walks again

Just got back from a holiday on the coast, lots of walking for me to watch the sailing exploits of my family
here, .... and here...

What - August Already

Just finished up at work and taking some time to greet you all. Hot weather is here, walks are early in the AM. I see some acquaintances fishing each day and meet my bicycling neighbor somewhere along the route. Met the two dachshund pups today - their tails wag so hard, they wiggle their whole bodies. Today, the blue heron was "sailing" low across the canal and many turtles were dilly dallying in the water while the sun came up over the trees. Do like these walks - makes my day start much better. Joy to all!
